CurrentThe project will consist of public-private collaboration. The area will feature a new sustainable green neighborhood, integrating the old castle area in the town of Vilamaniscle, located in the Girona province (Spain).The neighborhood will have eleven houses newly built, a minimum of three will be social housing with a social rent. The total residential built area will have at its completion a maximum of 1.850 m2 built.The building construction will last 12-16 months, and it’s expected to start in the second quarter of 2022.Main issues regarding Design & Construction: Design to have very low energy needs throughout the life cycle of buildings, Aligning aesthetic, sustainable and efficient design.Do not use polluting materials or materials that cannot be reused or recycled in the deconstruction.Select materials with very low embodied energy (e.g. minimize quarrying and cooking processes) and low carbon footprint on distribution process.Main issues regarding Energy Production & StorageAvoid as much as possible connecting buildings to the general electricity network, that means obtaining self-sufficiency throughout the use of sun, wind and geothermal energy.Centralize and minimize energy storage systems.Main issues regarding Building Operations: Local builders following the established project procedures such as material passport control.Expertise on dry building systems. Optimize the use of machinery to reduce its impact.
