Business ManagerMoelis Australia Securities Apr 2010 - May 2012Sydney, AustraliaMoelis Securities commenced operations in March 2010, the first equities arm of the global investment bank Moelis & Company. The company provides equities research, trading and distribution services to Australian wholesale clients. Reporting to the Head of Equities, the role required the organisational and operational setup of appropriate systems, policies, procedures and business strategy across finance, compliance, HR, client management and IT functions. My role encompassed:• Through liaison with Moelis IT staff, as well as with external service providers (namely the ASX, Chi-X and IRESS, an equity information and trading platform), I oversaw the setup of multi-market trading capabilities. This was the first time in Australia that trading had been available through more than just one market (ie. the ASX), and represented a significant challenge in order to remain compliant with regulations and to maintain service quality and awareness for all clients, while at the same time assuring minimal disruption to the business itself. On the first day of multi-market trading being available in Australia, Moelis was one of the few entities in the country which had been fully approved to trade;• Design of capital adequacy framework, ensuring that Moelis maintained, at all times, a sufficient level of liquid capital reserves to support trading positions, counterparty exposure and foreign exchange risk;• Development of operational and trading risk frameworks, including compliance with Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC), Australian Stock Exchange (ASX) and Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) requirements, and development of internal policies and procedures; • Development of Moelis Australia webpage, marketing materials and research product; and• Establishment of over 100 new client accounts.

Chief Operating OfficerCredit Suisse Jan 2006 - Feb 2009Sydney, AustraliaThe Credit Suisse Australian Equities division was a top 3 broker by market share, and top 3 by ECM/IB deal flow, constituting 80+% of Australian platform revenues in 2008. Reporting to the Head of Credit Suisse Australia, the Head of Australian Equity Sales and the Asia Pacific COO, the role provided a conduit between the front and back office, ensuring that both departments were communicating effectively and providing timely solutions for each other. My roles encompassed:Chief Operating Officer-• Restructure of the interactions between IT and risk management. With the onset of the GFC, it became increasingly important to have more robust trading and compliance procedures, as the business operated in an ever more volatile and financially restrictive environment. I was responsible for implementing greater trading restrictions, in tandem with IT measures which could more closely and accurately monitor real-time risk exposures. This project involved collaboration between many divisions of the company including IT, operational risk, finance, legal and compliance, and trading personnel. This project ensured that the business remained at all times compliant with the capital adequacy requirements of the ASX, and was able to continue trading through this turbulent time with no impact on our clients; • Business strategy and implementation, including forecasting and budgeting of sales and trading revenues, expenses and headcount;• Monitoring of control, regulatory and compliance issues;• Ensuring relevant business, operating, IT, and credit risks were identified and minimised; • Coordination and implementation of New Business initiatives; and• Introduction and management of a graduate mentoring programme.Derivative Sales and Execution- • Execution and facilitation of clients' stock and derivatives trades.
