Get in touch!In my non-fiction, I take the latest research in the history of culture, particularly literature and music, to the widest possible audiences - primarily through my writing, but also through teaching, public lectures, and media work.With a substantial list of academic and trade publications to my name, I have spent the past twenty years successfully working in both the public and commercial sectors, combining writing with teaching English Literature, and, more recently, Creative Writing for leading universities such as Oxford University and Stanford. 'Sounds and Sweet Airs: The Forgotten Women of Classical Music' has been shortlisted for the RPS Creative Communication award and inspired a wealth of music-making since its publication. Patriot and Traitor: the Life and Death of Sir Walter Ralegh (2018) was a BBC History Book of the Year.

Fulbright Distinguished ScholarUs-Uk Fulbright Commission 2009 - 2010Thanks to the Fulbright Commission, I spent a wonderful time at Arizona State University in 2010, getting on with research and getting to know the USA (aka a major road trip in my final weeks there...). On my return to the UK, I was invited to join the British Fulbright Scholars Association committee, and enjoyed working with fellow Fulbrighters to increase involvement in the BFSA amongst UK alumni.
