Independent Children'S Occupational Therapist
CurrentMy role as an Occupational Therapist is to support children and young people to be able to complete the everyday tasks they want, need or are expected to do. Assessment includes using an occupation-based strengths-based approach to support children, young people and families with everyday tasks such as dressing, handwriting, concentrating in class or riding a bike. Intervention aims to help children/young people to achieve child-centred purposeful goals while using an approach that is both fun and enabling. Great emphasis is placed on empowering children/young people; their families and educators so that they feel confident to continue developing the skills within the child’s everyday life. Assessment and intervention can be undertaken in any setting in which the child/young person would like support. Other services such as consultation, training and workshops can be provided face-to-face or virtually to parents, educators and other organisations caring for children and young people.
