For my research credit in the Psychology major, I conducted research on dual language education and bilingualism in children under Professor Alena Esposito. In this position, I worked in a team to design a quantitative coding strategy in order to study dual language education live in the classroom and designed qualitative interview scripts to assess teacher, student, and parent attitudes about dual language education to be used by local school administration. Before COVID-19, we traveled to a local public school to observe bilingual classrooms and collect pilot data. Additional lab tasks included performing relevant academic literature review and meta-analysis, translating lab materials such as consent forms and recruiting emails from English to Spanish, performing lab organization tasks such as filing, and entry of pilot data collected in the field. I also have experience with various experimental programs including Excel for data entry, Qualtrix to recruit participants, SPSS for data analysis, and PEBL software to conduct virtual experimentation using a SPAM grid to test dual language association and knowledge acquisition. This spring, for my individual Capstone project, I will be translating qualitative data from interviews into quantitative data in order conduct statistical analysis on the different styles and outcomes of dual language education.
