My diverse skill set and background compliments and contributes to my passion for health and wellbeing through community development that includes the social, natural, built and economic environments at both a neighbourhood scale and within buildings and facilities. I am a full-member of the Canadian Institute of Planners and Registered Professional Planner with the Alberta Professional Planning Institute. I have 18 years experience as a professional planner and have worked in the fields of strategic planning, crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED), facilitation, facility planning, master planning and comprehensive community planning with First Nation communities. I strive to advocate the integral relationship between “people and place” as necessary factors contributing to inclusive, diverse, engaged and vibrant communities. I spent 5 years as an Adjunct Assistant professor with the Faculty of Environmental Design, University of Calgary supervising Master’s level theses and teaching graduate level students courses in facilitation and building safe communities. I was part of developing a new joint initiative – “People and Place” - between the faculties of Social Work and Environmental Design. I co-created and taught course curriculum as well as led “hands-on” student projects in Calgary communities. I have also conducted workshops across North America on SafeGrowth (tools, governance models, and approaches to creating healthy, vibrant and safe communities) to police, design professionals and community members. In addition, I have 25 years of experience as a tennis instructor for children, youth, adults and seniors.
