Profile bio

About Anna Britton

I believe in using data and evidence-based practices to change the landscape of society towards one that is more just, transparent, and safe for all communities. I am excited by opportunities where I get the chance to research real-world problems and bring real-world solutions to individuals and communities, particularly those in marginalized groups. I bring a social-equity research lens to my projects and believe in the power of diverse groups and cross-disciplinary collaboration. Currently, I am exploring opportunities pertaining to social science research within government or private organizations, including nonprofits, advocacy groups, think tanks, and special interest groups.I am skilled in a diverse range of research methods and techniques, both quantitative and qualitative, including surveys, human subjects experiments, ethnography/observational study, interviews, secondary data analysis, case studies, and reviews. While my specialty interest is in criminology and criminal justice, I hold broad knowledge in sociology, anthropology, and psychology, including racial and gender studies, urban studies, cultural studies, inequality, and demography. I am adept in the analysis and monitoring of reporting systems and large databases, as well as using data to assess policy, practice, and outcomes.I have over three years of experience at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, where I contributed to lasting impacts in social science research and evaluation through the creation of two 30-page literature reviews focused on the intersections of social sciences and cyber/digital crimes, the development and execution of a novel human subjects’ experiment with over 1,000 participants, and the creation of a framework for a harm reduction proposal, among other accomplishments. Through these projects, I have become comfortable managing large datasets, overseeing data collection and data analysis efforts, and conducting research through collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.I hold a Master’s in Criminology, Law and Society from University of California, Irvine where my research focused on social inequalities, racial justice, gender studies, restorative justice, and prison reform. This degree focused on applied methods in criminology with a focus on preparing students for work in the government or private sectors. Here I developed skills in applied research, policy analysis, data management and analysis, and writing professional reports, briefs, articles, and summaries.
