Seasonal Customer Care Associate - Mail Order
Receiving and processing phone- and web- based orders for customers. Answering questions about products and services. Prepare and process large gifting orders for corporate clients.
Scientist I
Development and implementation of cell-based assays for the early drug discovery and research pipeline (cell-based assays, immunoassays, qPCR, cell line development and cell banking, assay automation and miniaturization). Lead cross-functional team for investigation of new therapeutic targets in obesity/cardiometabolic disease.Serve as departmental representative to Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Committee. Continuing education with Project Management courses.
Associate Scientist
In vitro pharmacology projects to facilitate the early drug development pipeline. Specific technologies and assays include cell culture, high-throughput screening of drug candidates, qPCR of cultured cells and animal tissues, confocal microscopy, and high-content imaging.
Post-Doctoral Fellow
I worked with Dr Glen Kisby in the area of neurotoxicology. My main project was development of patient-derived iPSCs from individuals with a rare neurologic disorder, and optimization of protocols for generating hNPCs, neurons, and astrocytes from the iPSCs. I then applied both out patient-derived cell lines and commercially-available cell lines for the investigation of neurodevelopment and neurodegenerative disorders caused by environmental exposures. Other projects include exposure of mice to secondhand smoke (collaborative study with OHSU) and analysis of the brain tissue following exposure using both immunohistochemical and dot blot/western blot analyses, and development of a dot blot assay for use with a LiCOR Odyssey imaging system. This position included mentoring junior scientists (medical students and pre-med undergraduate/post-bacc students) through their own research projects, as well as managing day-to-day operations of the Kisby lab (supplies inventory, instrument maintenance, etc).
Volunteer Research Assistant
Graduate Research Assistant
I completed my PhD in Toxicology in the labs of Dr. Staci Simonich and Dr. Robyn Tanguay. My project was a combination of analytical chemistry and developmental toxicology, investigating the developmental toxicity and mechanism of action of nitrated PAHs. I have also investigated the dosimetry of PAHs and NPAHs during zebrafish toxicity testing. This research was primarily funded by an NIEHS F31 grant (PI: Chlebowski).
Undergraduate Research Assistant
I worked in the research lab of Dr. John Gilbertson, synthesizing small-molecule mimics of enzymatic sites, centered around metal atoms. My project specifically investigated hydrogen bonding in the secondary coordination sphere of zinc-containing pyridine diimine ligand systems. This research project culminated in an Honors Thesis and oral presentation, to earn Departmental and University Honors, as well as a poster presentation at a local American Chemical Society meeting.
Intern: Summer Training In Environmental Toxicology
This was an internship at UC Davis, funded by the NIEHS. I worked in the lab of Dr. Nilesh Gaikwad, investigating the metabolism of estrogen with DNA, and possible use of estrogen conjugates with drugs for chemotherapeutic use. During the course of the internship, I learned from other members of the lab, as well as training others at the end of the internship. This internship concluded with oral presentations by all participants describing their work.
Participant In The Student Airborne Research Program (Sarp)
This was an internship in the SARP program, through NASA and the National Suborbital Education and Research Center (NSERC). The program entailed collection of air samples aboard the NASA DC-8 aircraft in California, as well as analysis of the samples in the Rowland-Blake research group. My project investigated methyl bromide, and potential sources and sinks, in Southern California. At the end of the program, all participants gave an oral presentation of their data. My presentation was selected as one of the top three, and I gave my presentation at the American Geophysical Union fall meeting in December 2010 in San Francisco, at the NASA booth.
