As part of my sandwich degree at Bournemouth University, I undertook an industrial placement with the I Do Festivals Group who have since rebranded to Corporate Events International. During this placement I undertook roles and responsibilities within the Finance sector of the company, working alongside the finance manager directly to produce client quotations, reconcile bank transactions using Xero, providing accounting knowledge in the presentation of annual financial statements (P&L, Balance and Income Statements and, VAT statements). In addition to these responsibilities I undertook the Human Resources side to the company, to broaden my knowledge and increase my awareness throughout the organisation. The responsibilities I undertook on this side of the business included; providing a return-to-work schedule for employees and employers, alongside a filing system and return to work policies for employees.Working within the events industry allowed me to experience face-to-face situations often with clients, ensuring the service received was of value to the end customer. When working alongside the events team I worked with the ‘Head of Food and Beverages’ to serve clients within the events industry. This was my first introductory experience into the events industry, learning about artist liaison roles which was incredibly enjoyable.Due to the variation throughout this placement, I was able to exercise skills across many departments within the organisation, demonstrating my ability to adapt quickly to change in a fast-pace business environment.
