South East Region

At the Royal College of Nursing I am responsible for carrying out a range of creative communications and editorial activities to support the delivery of regional member and media communications and public affairs activity.I source, write and edit content for print and online communications aimed at members, potential members, internal staff, stakeholders and the media. This includes e-newsletters, regional reports, social media, intranet, and the regional pages of the website.I work to promote the region through media activity, responding to queries (coordinating interviews, selecting and briefing appropriate spokespeople, managing broadcast interviews and photocalls), and maximising the opportunity to promote the College through writing press releases, pitches, case studies, web copy and social media.I develop targeted communications materials to reach core demographics of the College's membership, recruiting and retaining members (newsletters, posters, event flyers), managing the production of materials, including liaising with designers, photographers and printers. I regularly contribute to other regional activities such as events and presentations.

London

At London South Bank University I was the first point of contact for media enquiries, and managed the full administration of the press office service. I wrote the University's media strategy and assisted with the management of the press officer, student ambassadors and freelancers.I responded to enquiries from across the media, coordinating interviews and photocalls, and selecting and briefing spokespeople. I was a core member of the University's crisis communications team.My role included writing and editing copy for numerous outlets, including press releases, pitches, case studies, web copy, social media, e-newsletters, staff intranet and magazines. Within the University I worked to raise awareness of the press office and communications team among staff and students.I was responsible for the development of new press office functions such as the launch of the ‘media expertise’ area of the website. I maintained press cutting logs and media databases, and wrote media and communications reports for the University's Board meetings. I regularly contributed to other marketing and communications activities such as events.

My responsibilities at the UK's national blood pressure charity included:- Proactive and reactive media work including case study and fundraising feature stories and comment on the latest research news.- Coordinating the media campaign for the charity's flagship annual event - Know your Numbers! Week.- Editor of membership magazine - writing, editing, proofreading, and managing the design, production process and costs.- Managing the case studies database.- Updating the main charity and events websites, with particular responsibility for developing the media area.- Administration of press office, including maintaining the media contacts database and press cuttings log and developing the photo library.

My responsibilities included:- Researching and writing news stories and features for magazines, websites and supplements. - Interviewing key industry contacts. - Commissioning features/columns.- Subbing and proofreading copy, correcting and laying out pages, sourcing images.- Representing the publications at press launches, events and overseas trips. - Chairing and judging for the company’s awards. Assisting in production of related publications and materials.- Deputising in Editor’s absence during press, including approving pages.

My responsibilities included:- Editor of monthly retail newsletter with responsibility for content and design.- Rebranding and redevelopment of online and hard copy products.- Editing and proofreading of directory to house style.- Assisting coordination of publishing schedules. - Coordinating contractual publishing jobs.- Writing and subbing copy for other company products (online and magazines).- Commissioning and writing forewords.- Responsibility for Editorial Assistant.
