Their first trip, recorded in their best selling book 20,000 Miles South, spanned from Alaska to Tierra Del Fuego (1954-1956). They continued traveling, writing and photographing for National Geographic through 1970, filming much of their adventures. Helen was sometimes banned from walking in the front door of the places where she spoke about her travels, and was not allowed to join the Explorers Club because she was a woman. This amazing woman gave up a promising career (she'd just been hired by Edith Head!) to travel the world with her husband, eventually committing her life to exploring diverse cultures and lands for National Geographic. Constantly on the road from the time she was 22, in 1948, through 1970 when she was 44, Helen dedicated herself to capturing the people she met around the world on camera and canvas, foregoing motherhood to support her husband and his dreams. GAIAM purchased Spiritual Cinema Circle in Nov 2006. Anna was responsible for sourcing and Licensing 4 films each month for SCC and also licensed numerous titles for GAIAM as they created GAIAM TV (now Gaia). Anna attended film festivals and markets around the world as a film buyer and sat on many panels and juries throughout her time as an acquisitions executive.Anna left GAIAM in 2015, but when Gay Hendricks bought SCC back from GAIAM in 2018, Anna partnered again with Stephen Simon to bring the final 2 years of Spiritual Cinema Circle to fruition. SCC closed in May of 2020, more than 16 years after it started.
