Working with Westminster City Council, resident and business stakeholders, including major landowners and businesses, (Soho Estates, Shaftesbury, NIMAX Theatres, Soho Housing, New West End Company) and following extensive community consultations to test policy direction, the draft Plan influenced the emerging new Westminster City Plan, which adopted a number of its policies and the proposal of a SPA (Special Policy Area) for Soho. My role has also included supporting members to navigate and develop CIL proposals for the Neighbourhood Area; working with consultants Publica and AECOM, who are providing design, planning and research support and securing public (Westminster City Council, Groundworks/Central Government) and private sector funding. The Soho Neighbourhood Area is a unique and important part of London with a distinguished heritage. The proposed Soho Neighbourhood Plan will enable development which reinforces Soho’s reputation for creativity, diversity and tolerance. These characteristics are demonstrated in many ways, for example through the range of businesses, from sole traders to big household names, through its varied and strong residential communities and through its diverse culture and entertainment offer. Soho is developing a Neighbourhood Plan to protect this diverse mix and also enable some further growth which sustainably enhances what is already a complexly developed area. Show less -
