I am currently working as a Project Manager at a marine conservation charity. Sea Trust specialises in cetacean research, plastic waste reduction and environmental education. We also run a visitor centre and small catch and release aquarium. We are a small team and my role is very varied. I am involved with managing the charity on a day to day basis with a focus on project development and management, grants management, financial management and staff management.

I worked on a freelance basis for a landscape and environmental design company. My role was to undertake preliminary ecological appraisals mainly for affordable housing planning applications. This involved the surveys and writing the reports. I also assisted on some bat roost surveys.

I was working for a multidisciplinary environmental and horticultural consultancy. My main role was working as an environmental consultant on restoration ecology projects. My duties included ecological report writing, compiling method statements, conducting vegetation surveys and general administration. Many of the projects I was involved in were government funded community upliftment projects that involved rehabilitating the natural environment whilst providing skills and employment for remote communities.

Tsitsikamma, Eastern Cape, South Africa

I worked on the development of a golf estate which bordered on the Tsitsikamma Coastal National Park. I was responsible for ensuring that all the contractors adhered to the Environmental Management Plan (EMP). This involved carrying out routine site inspections, analysing environmental data, attending regular meetings and writing environmental reports. This greatly improved my communication and mediation skills.

I worked as a research assistant on a project which sought to quantify and describe the social and economic contribution of forestry to the people of Scotland. I was involved in many aspects of the research including designing a database, questionnaire surveys, collection of raw data, analysis of data and writing of reports. My input into this project was substantial as I had a lot of responsibility particularly in the data handling aspect.

After graduating I worked on two short-term contracts for Forest Research. I worked on delivering a scoping study which evaluated the economic and social (i.e. non-timber) contributions of forestry for people in Scotland. My input to this project required me to quickly develop an understanding of the subject area, culminating in the reviewing of interim reports to provide guidance.
