Team researcher and mid-term evaluator of the UNCDF (United Nations Capital Development Fund) "Migration and Remittances Programme"

CeSPI is a research institute established in 1985 and based in Rome, carrying out policy-oriented studies and activities in the field of research, consultancy, training and communication on key issues of international relations, international development and cooperation and international migrations and migratory policies. My Work responsibilities include:- Draft research programs: including budget management and evaluation of results; -Research: including data analysis, desk and policy analysis and qualitative methods (fieldwork in Italy and abroad);-Interviews and exchanges with national, international and institutional experts and policy makers in different countries;-Keep up networks and contacts with national and international experts, migrations scholars, institutional representatives; public and private actors; NGOs and migrant groups and leaders; -Fund raising and grantmaking;-Write up research reports, papers and press release for different addresses (press, academia, institutions, migration scholars and practitioners, students);-Disseminate research results in national and international media (ie. national press, international journals, migration websites as for instance: http://www.africa-eu-partnership.org/node/1997; participate to conferences and public events).-Coordinate research team; supervising collaborators and consultants; co-working with research partners in Italy and abroad.-Organise public events and seminars including program definition, press release, translation, participant involvement and management.

Within the framework of “Enhancing Knowledge on Remittances and Diaspora Engagement in South Sudan” funded by the IOM-International Development Fund (IDF), IOM South Sudan is conducting a study on remittance flows and development opportunities, with a focus on the South Sudanese diaspora in Australia. Research is undertaken with desk analysis and field visits.

Within the Rabat Process and under the support of the Rabat Process Secretariat, innovative diaspora engagement initiatives had been identified, as good practices to be adopted or replicated. The work included desk analysis and interviews with key persons in Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia and Europe.

Senior researcher and coordinator within the association Sunugal for an IOM/the Global Mechanism study directed at mapping the competences of the Senegalese diaspora in Italy to enhance and give value to temporary/permanent return investments in the homeland, within the project “Afrique de l’Ouest: Promouvoir une gestion soutenable de la terre en des zones d’exode migratoire par des mécanismes financiers innovateurs”

Experienced evaluator for mid-term evaluation of the Danida funded project entitled "Diaspora Programme – Diaspora-driven Relief, Rehabilitation and Development". The evaluation has the aim of:1. Assessing the impact of DP-funded projects in Afghanistan and Somalia implemented by DK-based Afghan and Somali diaspora organisations, with a view to reassess the criteria for projects to be supported by the DP. 2. Conducting a qualitative analysis of the beneficiaries’ perception of diasporas as development agents, with a view to enhance knowledge on how beneficiary perception affects the comparative value of diasporas as development agents.3. Identify and visit other diaspora-initiated projects in Somalia to document their work without external support.Fieldwork in Denmark and Somalia is conducted.

Within the project “Associations de migrants, gouvernance et biens publics locaux dans les pays d’origine. Le cas des associations maliennes et sénégalaises en France et en Italie (Projet GLAMMS)”, commissioned by IRD (Institut de recherche pour le développment), Paris – France, a study with fieldwork in Italy and Senegal had been undertaken on transnational migrant associations involved in development projects in the homeland.

Consultant for Policy and Research Division, Financial Sector team at DFID (Department for International Development of the UK government). Co-editing the Migrant Remittances Newsletter, a joint USAID-DFID initiative. http://www.microlinks.org/ev_en.php?ID=13069_201&ID2=DO_TOPICTasks include contributing to and/or coordinating the following:- Establish and keep up relationships among donors, researchers, commercial financial and money transfer services, NGOs, and others;- Liaising with the USAID and DFID staff around the world and a wide range of contacts to solicit newsletter inputs;- Soliciting / researching newsletter inputs and synthesising / packaging news items;- Product and co-edit the newsletter and newsmails/ dissemination;- Developing search / solicitation strategies and planning to coordinate within the team.

A research, under the coordination of Prof. Maurzio Ambrosini, to investigate the transnational entrepreneurship of migrants between origin and destination country. The byproduct is a volume "Intraprendere tra due mondi", with a study case on Milano as personal contribute: "Le quattro M: mobilità e meccanismi di merci e mercati".

Within the European Research Project “PEMINT: The Political Economy of Migration in an Integrating Europe” - 5th Framework Program, the research team studied the recruitment of migrant workers through its outcomes in 6 EU countries in terms of labour mobility and international migration under the impact of different welfare provisions, fiscal systems, and regulatory frameworks. Among different outcomes, a contribution on the highly skilled mobility within the new global division of labour.
