I am a masters student studying biomedical engineering at the University of Maine. I graduated with my bachelors degree in biomedical engineering and a minor in engineering leadership and management, in May 2024. I am passionate about furthering the medical field through technological advancements as well as through the lense of public health and public policy.I have worked in two different research labs while at UMaine. During my sophomore year I worked in Dr. Bashir Khoda’s lab under PhD student Madison Mueth, working on a project aimed at learning to 3D print bones. During my junior and senior year I worked in Dr. Caitlin Howell’s lab under PhD student Liza White. I helped conduct research on using diffraction surfaces as a low cost method of detecting contamination in water. I am currently working in Dr. Caitlin Howell’s lab as a masters student working to optimize the growth rate of mycelium.In the summer of 2022, I had the opportunity to be a chemist intern at Abbott Laboratories. Over the course of the summer I learned about the manufacturing process of their Covid-19, Strep, RSV and Flu test kits. In the summer of 2023, I had the privilege of being a clinical engineering intern at Eastern Maine Medical Center. During my time at EMMC I worked with their clinical engineering team to solve issues around the hospital. I also learned how to fix and maintain a variety of different medical devices and equipment from their team of biomedical technicians. I am involved in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) on campus as well as a medically focused volunteer group called Operation Hearts. I am also a member of the UMaine Cross Country and Track Teams.
