I am currently a Surveillance Epidemiologist with the Georgia Emerging Infections Program, having been with the program since the fall of 2017. I have overseen the mailing of study introductory letters, organized study materials, interviewed and enrolled participants, and maintained files and validation for hundreds of potential cases and controls for the Pneumococcal Conjugate Vaccine Effectiveness study. This experience led to being responsible for planning, drafting materials, case ascertainment, participant interviewing and enrollment, tracking of specimen collection kits and data management for the Group A Streptococcus Genomics study, currently ongoing. In addition, I have maintained data management and reporting for active surveillance activities, and have undertaken medical chart abstraction for the Active Bacterial Core project and for COVID-19 cases, as well as conducting interviews with healthcare personnel who tested positive for COVID-19 for a study with the GA Dept of Public Health.I was awarded a degree in Biomedical Engineering with honor from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2017. I was a non-traditional student as I chose to return to school in my late 20s and working a minimum of 20 hours every week during my academic career. I am a self-starter who is not afraid of a challenge or hard work. As a mature candidate, I also have experience in managing staff, up to 20 at a time, implementing systems and training, as well as extensive experience working on teams.I spent several semesters working in Dr. Edward Botchwey’s Biomaterial lab, under the guidance of PhD candidate Cheryl Lau. I was responsible for managing cell cultures, performed in vivo and in vitro procedures, imaging with the confocal microscope, and analysis with Excel, Matlab, ImageJ and Imaris software. I performed several staining procedures for Western Blotting as well as flow cytometry. I was also put in charge of building an experimental platform which save the lab from purchasing a commercial one for $10,000. I was awarded a Presidential Undergraduate Research Award for my final semester of work. I have a true passion for problem solving and have developed a passion for public health. My software competencies include MATLAB, Design & Image Analysis programs: SolidWorks, Imaris, Zen, ImageJ, FileMakerPro, LabVIEW, PLAS, and MS Office Suite (expert proficiency Excel). I wrote code for MATLAB to remove 20 pieces of critical data from over 1 million pieces with random data points to achieve a file containing numerical raw data.
