I transitioned to a full-time research assistant to continue working on my lung injury and inflammation models research projects under the mentorship of Dr. Christopher Evans in the Pulmonary Sciences and Critical Care division. During my time in the Evans Lab, I acquired skills various cell and molecular biological techniques, including gene targeting and editing, air-liquid interface model, and mammalian cell culture. - Spearheaded the design, development, and implementation of a novel gene targeting/editing and cell culture protocol, resulting in a 20% increase in efficiency and significantly reducing project timelines.- Collaborated with a team of 3 to successfully develop and implement a highly efficient software program, utilizing MatLab and Python, which automated the quantification and analysis of targeted lung cells, improving accuracy and efficiency.- Demonstrated exceptional project management skills while leading a novel project aimed at creating targeted overproducing mucus cells in collaboration with 2 biomedical research companies and 3 academic institutions, resulting in advancement in the field of pulmonary mucus research- Co-authored 4 scholarly research articles published in highly respected journals, leveraging strong analytics and written communication skills- Mentored and trained 4 research students on genotyping procedures and standard laboratory and bench practices, enabling them to develop essential skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to ongoing research projects

Over three summers, I gained and expanded my bench science skills and overall understanding of scientific research as a student assistant for the Evans Lab. During my time as a student, I helped further the research on multiple projects and collaborated with research professionals in various fields. I learned techniques in cell culture, PCR/genotyping, in vivo animal models, and translational disease models.

Served as a peer leader for Organic Chemistry courses at the University of Kansas with the goal of bridging the gap between teaching and learning. I hosted two small group sessions per week for students in the organic chemistry courses with the aim to coach, practice, and solidify student's understanding and familiarity with the concepts covered in class. I was also present during class time to assist students during the practice problems. The team of 12 peer leaders created a packet of practice problems and concepts applicable to the learning done in class which was used during weekly sessions to provide students with additional learning material. The team also hosted unit review sessions, approximately six per semester. I served as Head PLUS Leader from August 2019-May 2020. As Head PLUS Leader, I coordinated PLUS leaders' schedules, ran weekly meetings with the professor and PLUS supervisor, was the point person between the professor and the PLUS team, and was responsible for the administrative duties (training, answering emails from students, reserving session rooms, etc) of the PLUS program.

I worked one-on-one with Organic Chemistry students at the University of Kansas who needed and/or wanted more in-depth and personalized help with organic chemistry concepts. I had six private tutoring students who I would meet with on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. I would assist them with practice problems, homework, and review questions by explaining organic chemistry concepts in different ways than they were taught in class so that they would have a solid, reproducible understanding of the concept.
