• This position allowed me to develop new skills and expertise in the area of digitisation and online access to archives. My role included the following:
• Developing a digitisation strategy for the Society, including articulating the benefits of digitisation, prioritising material and planning infrastructure needs
• Planning and coordinating the conservation, digitisation and transcription of archival materials
• Providing advice to colleagues on digital reformatting and records management best practice
• Developing specifications and user requirements for an online platform for the presentation of digitised archives

• Key achievements included:
• Implementing an archival storage system for the long-term storage of digital artworks and other valuable digital assets. This involved specifying requirements and managing the procurement process, carrying out ongoing.
• Planning and implementing development work on Tate’s Digital Asset Management System, to allow the management of digitised archive material.
• Managing a project to install and test a new digital preservation system (Archivematica) for the ingest of digital video artworks.
• Developing a Digital Preservation and Continuity Policy for Tate.
• Establishing a new training course on Digital Asset Management for Tate staff.

• In this role I worked on the Government Digital Archive Programme, a major project with the objective of enabling Archives New Zealand to accept transfers of digital records from government agencies, and to preserve.
• Gathering requirements and coordinating business input for the Government Digital Archive.
• Developing guidance for staff on digitisation and ingest procedures.
• Carrying out an audit of existing digitised holdings.
• Taking the role of expert user for the digital preservation system (Rosetta) and associated ingest tools.
• Developing a new metadata model for Archives New Zealand's archival management system, Archway. The new metadata model was designed to give more flexibility in describing items and the relationships between them.

• Liaising with government agencies, providing advice on the preparation of records for transfer, and ensuring compliance with descriptive and access standards.
• Writing descriptive and contextual documentation for Archway (Archives New Zealand's archival management system), in order to facilitate access to the archives.
• Working closely with system developers on a new release of Archway. This required an intimate understanding of Archway and an in-depth analysis of technical specifications and their impact on internal and external users.

• My responsibilities included:
• Taking customer requests for information and ensuring these were dealt with efficiently.
• Providing access to the archives and using my knowledge of the collection to help customers find the information they were looking for.
• Updating database records and assisting archivists with processing projects.
