I lead the advocacy department at the Arthritis Foundation, where I oversee both the federal and state legislative programs, in addition to grassroots engagement. My focus is to raise the visibility of arthritis as a public health priority, build support for federal and state legislation that ensures access to affordable, high-quality health care, and enhance patient engagement in the policy-making process. My background is in federal affairs, and I love bringing patient stories into conversations with policy-makers. I am passionate about patient advocacy and I spend a lot of my time bringing the patient perspective to external audiences, whether its policymakers, health system stakeholders, coalitions, or other patient groups. Prior to joining the Arthritis Foundation in 2014, I worked as Senior Manager for Federal Affairs at the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, where I managed a portfolio of issues including appropriations, physician workforce, and health IT. I began my health policy career as a Congressional Fellow for Energy and Commerce Committee members, where I drafted legislation and staffed Committee activities. I began my career as a junior high and high school teacher before moving to Washington D.C. in 2007 to pursue my Master's Degree in Political Science from American University.
