Editorial Assistant, Humanities And Social Sciences Journals
Cambridge, United Kingdom
My role involved providing administrative and editorial support to a group of 4 editors, each of whom dealt with a number of Social Sciences journals. I helped to update internal databases and the Journals website. A large part of my role consisted of the preparation of publishing reports prior to the board meetings of Social Sciences journals. This process involved compiling usage and subscription data using various reporting systems, as well as analysing impact factors and article downloads. I was also involved in the preparation of tender documents and journal proposals.I was responsible for processing new appointments, expiries, transfers, and renewals to each journal's editorial board - this involved sending letters, updating our records and notifying the Syndicate, the Press' approving body, as well as Production and Customer Services. I also arranged departmental meetings, scheduling times and locations, creating agendas and taking minutes. Occasionally, I was tasked with finding venues for external meetings or meals and making arrangements for these, and I attended several conferences where I manned a stand to promote the Press and its products.I also oversaw the production of several 'Journals as Books' titles throughout the year, which entailed gathering information from authors, Marketing, Production and Stock Management. Co-ordinating these projects and ensuring all deadlines and standards were met required a high degree of organisation, as well as strong communication skills.
