The journal aims to provide a centralized platform for students to share their academic contributions to this important field. As co-editor-in-chief, after hiring and managing our editorial board, my partner and I directed and edited the journal’s first publication. Whilst adopting an intersectional lens, the first issue of MJFS presented a wide sweep of important topics – within the fields of political science, philosophy, history and sociology among others – that shed light on the intricacies of individuals’ experiences and locality. While working remotely, I got accustomed to drafting various styles of publications, including memos, policy briefs or articles advocating for women’s rights and demanding accountability from states. Through independent research I became accustomed to the forms of local governance in the Horn of Africa and the stakes for gender equality which allowed me to support SIHA’s mission of building trust between authorities and women’s organizations.
