When studying for my A Levels I was convinced that a career in Psychology, more specifically Clinical Psychology, was how I'd spend the next 40 years of my life. The brain fascinates me, why do we behave the way we do, why do we still conform to social norms in modern society, is our behaviour completely predetermined and predictable? You get the picture. I had a plan to go to university, receive a degree...and a master's degree... and then a doctorate... secure a placement in industry... and finally work towards a dream job developing psychological practices. Well, I haven’t ended up doing any of that so far because I got a bit distracted with working in customer service and found out that I'm a natural problem-solver, resolving customer complaints was unexpectedly rewarding. And now, over the last couple of years, I have dived deep into the world of marketing and have never felt more energised. It makes a lot of sense to me why I enjoy and engage with the marketing community so much. I get to use my analytical skills to spot trends in data, I get to question why campaigns have gone better or worse than expected, I get to test my own hypothesis through A/B testing, learn about new strategies and I get to be oh-so creative along the way (writing charming community content alongside enticing sales emails!). It’s challenging, it’s rewarding and it’s a field that’s constantly adapting, what’s not to love about that? I’m fortunate enough to have developed many useful skills already and have met some incredible mentors too. I can’t wait to learn more throughout my Marketing career, and, on the side, dip my toes into a bit of not-for-profit fundraising and event planning... because everyone needs a hobby!
