She holds 152 issued US patents across diverse technology platforms with 31 years of industrial experience. Lee was the recipient of two R&D100 Awards. As a founding member, Lee invented the Velocys catalytic microchannel microfluidics technology platform and developed the technology from concept through scientific discovery, detailed engineering, manufacturing development and ultimately commercial technical and economic viability. Lee’s team delivered hardware for the first commercial Fischer-Tropsch reactor sale for biofuels. Lee joined Heliae in 2012 to develop and commercialize products. Lee’s team enabled Heliae’s first commercial algae production facility for Astaxanthin. She provided technical and executive leadership for a second commercial product, including an algal strain, bioreactor, and optimized growth process for agriscience biostimulant products now launched under the PhycoTerra brand.In late 2014 Lee launched her own venture. Tonkomo provides expert technological problem solving, development, scale-up, CFD, IP, and commercialization support to industrial clients. She conducts techno-economic assessments, and due diligence with market insights while connecting technology with end users and funders. Lee’s experience includes microreactors and microfluidic technology for Fischer-Tropsch (FT), oxidation reactions, multiphase hydrogenation, hydrocracking, combustion, reforming, hydrogen production from bio-based feedstocks, water gas shift, fuel processing, catalysts, kinetics, distillation, emulsions, and adsorption. Her biotechnology experience includes strain development, fermentation, photobioreactors, dewatering, extraction, and new product development.
