I was fortunate to have a very diverse role at BCHA. I had clients that resided at the Women’s Refuge, my role was to organise key-working sessions with them to ensure they were physically, emotionally & financially supported. This meant liaising with numerous services such as, Social Services, The Council’s Housing Department, NHS services, Mental Health Services, The Police, The courts, Legal Services, Benefit Agencies, Counselling Services, Sexual Health Services/ Sexual Abuse Specialists, etc. When I wasn’t based in the refuge, I was facilitating and organising two Domestic Abuse Courses; The Freedom Programme & Pattern Changing. These groups were free for local residents to attend for support, advice and information. The aim of running these groups focused upon helping individuals to recognise their abusive relationships and then reduce the risks attached to this, including reducing the risk of returning to an abusive situation. I gained a lot of invaluable training, knowledge and experience in my role which also gave me a lot of growth on a personal level.
