Further research involved the analysis of the effect of GLP-1 on the clusterin promoter using cultured cell transfections. Work also included investigations into the function and existence of adult pancreas.

Established and implemented cDNA microarray hybridization and analysis techniques in the laboratory. Successfully established external collaborations with other academic research groups and Universities.Involved in the development and establishment of protocols designed to potentially differentiate and re-differeniate pancreas progenitors into insulin.

Conducted PhD dissertation entitled investigations into peptidergic modulation of insulin secretion. Research included the assessment of analogs of somatostatin and GLP-1, developed by a biotechnology company, for use in the treatment of type II diabetes, investigations into the properties and action of the satiety regulator, leptin in the rodent islets of.

Assessed derivatives of imidazoline compounds for treatment of type II diabetes using isolated rat islets of Langerhans. Involved in general lab maintenance including technical assistance to postdoctoral fellows and PhD students.
