Anna O’Brien is the Director of Biodiversity Offsets Victoria Pty Ltd, a consultancy that establishes and brokers biodiversity offsets in accordance with Australian Government and Victorian biodiversity protection legislation. Anna is a botanist, and an accredited offsets broker and site assessor with the Victorian Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action and Trust for Nature. Anna has expertise in environmental planning and impact assessments, and biodiversity offsetting, conservation, management and restoration. Throughout her career, Anna has worked with government, community Landcare, farmers, industry, developers and other landowners to protect and enhance Victoria’s biodiversity on private land, and support rural communities. Anna has undertaken ecological assessments for government, industry and development to address impact requirements under National and Victorian environmental planning and biodiversity conservation regulations. Anna has also assisted farmers in Queensland and New South Wales under national drought recovery programs, and undertook honours research at the University of Melbourne in resilience building in the agricultural sector.Anna has a Master of Urban Planning and Environment from RMIT, and undertakes research in the Victorian offsetting system and its capacity to adequately compensate for permitted losses to Victoria’s biodiversity.
