Most of the students come from word of mouth and I am well-known for building long-lasting resilience in students .A majority of my work is with GCSE and A'Level students, helping them to understand exam question techniques and demystifying texts or poetry they don’t fully understand. Often, I have students with holes in their Literacy foundations who struggle with spelling, grammar and punctuation. I have tried and tested strategies to help restore and embed this knowledge which, in turn, boosts their writing ability across all subjects. More often than not, students come to me because they have lost their confidence or their joy of learning. Parents are often concerned that their child's achievement is not where it should be. As an experienced teacher, I understand how to work with students who have low-self esteem as well as specific learning needs. I was excited to join the staff of this high achieving inner-city school in London where the challenges of a diverse and low socio-economic demographic were significant. There was at that time, over 60 nationalities represented and yet the exceptionally high standards that were achieved were inspiring despite the extreme deprivation prevalent in the catchment. Unfortunately, my mother fell seriously ill and I needed to move home after only 7 months in post, to care for her.
