I am a Comparative Literature student from Queen Mary University of London, graduating with a 2:1. My degree has taught me a vast plethora of skills ranging from the ability to analyze multiple mediums in-depth, conducting proper research, academic and creative writing, forming coherent arguments, and the capability to understand and interpret other cultures. The application of these skills can be seen in all my university work, but most notably in my undergraduate dissertation focusing on the current trend of feminist revisionist mythology in an era after the #METOO movement. The diligent use of these skills along with my own passion and determination earned me a First in my thesis. One of the main reasons I chose to study Comparative Literature is because it cultivates a wider range of reading across linguistic boundaries to portray everything that the rather exclusive focus of national literature tends to obscure. Unlike typical English degrees, Comparative Literature gave me access to other spheres of media, including, history, philosophy, art, and politics. As an avid reader myself, I thoroughly enjoyed being able to branch out across different genres and explore an array of authors in different languages. Being a fluent German speaker, I believe that understanding other languages is extremely important and serves as a great asset when engaging with people. Some of the modules I studied over the course of three years included creative writing and a journalism focused module. Both of which taught me a diverse range of writing styles for various audiences. Forging my passion for literature and writing. In my second year of university, I took several modules in art history. Not only did this broaden my cultural knowledge even further, but it fostered my understanding of the importance of aesthetics and design. I believe that the breadth of skills that I have learned in my degree will be of great benefit in the workplace.Outside of university, my driven personality is showcased in my personal achievements of climbing two of the Seven Summit mountains before the age of 20 and in my current work experience where I achieved the position of head-waitress within a few months of employment. Combining this role with my A-level studies showed me the importance of organizational skills and teamwork. Additionally, my time in living and working in France for six months taught me how to liaise with customers in a professional environment, to think quickly on my feet, and to efficiently deal with any problems that arose in a proficient manner.
