During Phase One (week 1), intern teachers begin participating in the classroom by a. observing the cooperating teacher and other teachers; b. assisting the cooperating teacher while learning the names of the students; c. becoming familiar with the school's physical plant; d. meeting and having informal conferences with other teachers and school officials; e. working with individuals and small groups of students. Formal lesson plans (handwritten or computer generated) far enough in advance to ensure proper monitoring.
