As Montane's CSR Manager I am responsible for the company strategy for addressing sustainability challenges business-wide. This spans all aspects, from reviewing Montane's company offices in relation to waste management, energy use, and the availability of information and support for staff, to the products we manufacture, and the sourcing decisions we take.This broad role sees me engage with all departments at Montane, to support company-wide progress towards being more transparent with consumers, reducing our negative environmental footprint where possible, and setting realistic future targets.

Whilst continuing as Montane's Senior Womenswear Designer, upon becoming the company lead for sustainability I adopted some additional responsibilities. These included:- Maintaining fabric and trim certifications such as Bluesign, Oekotex, GOTs, and the RDS.- Leading on packaging updates to reduce Montane's negative environmental footprint. This included a transition to 100% recycled polybags, and the elimination of plastic kimbles on garments, as well as other packaging items transitioning to paper based alternatives.- Representing Montane in industry working groups such as the European Outdoor Groups Single Use Plastic Project.- Managing Montane’s membership of the Fair Wear Foundation from October 2019.- Supporting Montane's marketing department with website content relevant to sustainability topics.

As a multi-product womenswear designer I was responsible for designing all women's garments, which excludes Montane's backpack and accessory programme.Key focus areas in this role included:- Developing CADs for factories each season using Adobe Illustrator CC.- Developing size charts and trim specs (BOMs) for factories each season.- Annual visits to ISPO, Outdoor by ISPO, and Performance Days, to follow key industry trends, emerging technologies, and competitor developments.- Factory visits in Asia, to review technical capabilities and product development.- Developing seasonal mood boards for relevant style and colour trends, including colouring CADs to select new season fabric and trim colours.- Assessing garment FOB’s throughout development using Microsoft Excel, to support successfully meeting target RRP’s.- Working alongside Montane’s Fabric Manager to find the most relevant fabrics and technologies each season.

From developing and updating CADs, to measuring and commenting on factory samples, I assisted the Head Designer and Product Developer with each collection from its initial stages right through to bulk product arriving for Tog24 retail stores.By communicating with suppliers and manufacturers, updating the critical path, and organising garment details for merchandising workbooks, I helped to keep our suppliers up to date with the stages of our development, and our store employees informed with technical product information.Trips to The Outdoor Show (now Outdoor by ISPO) and ISPO in Germany gave me further insight and understanding into the outdoorswear industry.Founded 56 years ago, Tog24 is a Yorkshire based outdoors and ski wear company, who produce men's, women's and childrenswear, as well as accessories.
