I have been practising as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) for the past nine years. Prior to that, I worked as a level two dental assistant for five years. Working as a Dental Assistant, I gained the skills and confidence to aspire to become a RDH. I went into Dental Hygiene because my passion lies in educating and encouraging patients as well as emphasizing the importance of oral hygiene.I have worked in a variety of private practices which have predominately focused on treating children, geriatric and disability patients. Some patients come with nurses, care aids or family members that require proper guidance for home care. In certain situations being fluent in English and Polish has eased language barriers. There have been challenges but it has been very rewarding knowing that I am helping my patients to better their oral health. In the past my office has volunteered to help a Syrian family. We focused on diet and oral hygiene to help them know how important preventive care is. Proper communication with the Arabic translators was important to provide accurate instructions for them.I have held licenses in Ontario and British Columbia and noticed the change in practice standards. I have experienced several practices with different office protocols and cultural backgrounds, which - I feel - has given me a unique confidence in problem solving.
