I manage the adolescent care provided in Davie County, NC. I conduct adolescent/family intakes, provide individual, family, and group counseling as needed for 20-40 adolescent clients, and manage documentation for all of the above. I coordinate with a team of professionals, including school counselors, court counselors, case managers, and social workers, in order to deliver the best care to these individuals and their families. I also provide these services at the “home” office in Winston-Salem, which also requires coordination with other mental health, medical, and family service professionals. The skills I utilize most are based on Motivational Interviewing, Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, as well as The Seven Challenges model for adolescent substance abuse treatment.

Oak Ridge, Nc

I provide individual counseling for about 5 students, facilitate a substance abuse counseling group for about 4 students, and manage documentation for each. I also co-facilitate two coping skills counseling groups for middle school and high school students, and help manage documentation for each. These tasks require coordination with other counselors in the Wellness Center, as well as teachers, Tactical Officers, and other school faculty.

Winston-Salem And Walnut Cove, Nc

I provided counseling services to adult and adolescent clients, in both individual and group settings, mostly relating to substance abuse. I co-facilitated an Intensive Outpatient Program group and a Relapse Prevention Therapy group for adults, and a 7 Challenges group for adolescents. I also provided individual counseling for about ten clients per week, for which I mostly utilized motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral and dialectical-behavioral therapies, Gestalt therapy, and solution-focused therapy. I managed case notes for all of my individual sessions, as well as most of my group sessions. I also provided assistance with a new grant-funded Integrated Care Program, which seeks to provide a more holistic approach to both the physical and mental challenges of substance abuse recovery. This included tracking client data via physical examinations, mental health surveys, and surveys regarding the relationship between physical and mental health. The goal of this program is to expand our counseling services beyond the focus on substance abuse for those who may also benefit from support for related physical health challenges.

Winston-Salem, Nc

I assisted the Preventative Health Unit director in a variety of projects and initiatives, mostly relating to improving food access, providing nutrition education, and promoting healthier lifestyles. We coordinated with Cooperative Extension and local farmer’s markets on the Step Up Forsyth – Let’s Go Local! health promotion program. This was an expansion upon a former program that focused on promoting physical activity to also support local farmer's markets. This involved creating and implementing promotional events at a different market each week of the program, with the help of a local co-op and the farmers who supply the markets. I also assisted with the marketing for the program by composing various publications including press releases, articles, newsletters, briefs, and the Step Up Forsyth Facebook and Twitter accounts. During this internship, I also co-led various community nutrition programs for adults and children at local businesses and day camps.

New York, Ny

We pioneered a new program hosted by the New York Yankees called the Healthy Home Plate Program which worked with community youth to implement healthier lifestyles. I created a brochure for the organization for their Thanksgiving community nutrition program. We coordinated in the development and maintenance of an inner-city garden used to provide fresh produce to the Bronx and Harlem communities. We also taught community nutrition programs at various locations in these neighborhoods.

I coordinated with the Head Nutritionist to create or improve education programs for students. I created two brochures to be made available at the Center, titled, "Study Abroad Nutrition," and "Eating Healthy On-The-Go."

I assisted the Consultant Dietitian to create patient menus, order food, manage inventory, and oversee the kitchen. I also assisted the Head Chef with manageable cooking and baking and helped load trays and delivered them to patients.
