As Coordinator, Carers SA Western Carers I lead a small team. A key focus of this role was the implementation of a new model of carer support in the Western Metropolitan Region of Adelaide. This required both an understanding of Change Management Principles & the ability to lead & support staff & carers accessing the service through a period of change. I developed strategies & established processes to ensure statistical targets were achieved in line with budget requirements & met funder requirements. I engaged with the team utilising open & supportive communication & provided leadership & supervision. I provided clear line management processes, introducing regular individual meetings & undertaking a review of the ongoing agenda items at regular team meetings. I ensured staff were accountable & adhered to organisational practices & procedures. I undertook annual staff performance development reviews & ensured training needs were identified & action plans implemented.In response to identifying an unmet need for past & relinquishing carers I developed a volunteer program for current, past & relinquishing carers to provide for their emotional, physical, psychological & social well-being. The health & well-being outcomes for those volunteering has improved & the volunteers increased the programs capacity to support carers. I supported the Community Services Program undertaking across organisation projects. These included the roll-out of a volunteer project across all regions, the development of the Carers SA Carer Support Retreat Programs Practices & Procedures Manual, supporting forms & templates, in line with funder service agreement requirements for use across all regions.This role afforded me the opportunity to work closely with carers experiencing a range of impacts as a result of their caring role and, to implement programs and projects responsive to their needs.
As a Project Worker I worked across a range of projects that included Ageing, Disability, Mental Health and Young Carers.Selected achievements• Developing and presenting Ageing Carers Forums, Mental Health Forums, Carers SA Mental Health Services Presentations and presenting the Mental Health Carer Support and Respite Services presentation at the Carers SA Mental Health Week Forum.• Producing the Ageing Carers Planning for the Future of a Son or Daughter with a Disability or Mental Illness report and the Executive Summary for the Department of Families and Communities• Supervision of Social Work student placements• Establishing a consultative reference group to support project development, delivery and evaluation• Developing a resource to be utilised by all staff to enable them to respond promptly and effectively to carers, including carers from a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse background (CALD), of a person with a mental illness, who are in need of support for themselves and/or the person they care for.
