I have learned great organizational skills and time management, from a narrow perspective regarding the administrative tasks involved in being a Residential Adviser to a larger perspective regarding balancing my academics, residential education, and my extracurricular activities. Through programming events, I reinforced my organization skills and learned the importance of recognizing your audience. In order to have successful events as well as a successful relationship with my residents, I needed to make a topic appealing and consider their perspectives. Being a residential adviser taught me the importance of maintaining relationships. I had to balance having my residents respect me as an authority while also being an approachable figure for them to open up about their struggles. The practice of balancing these relationships will translate well to the work place, especially if I become a manager one day.In 2016, I was selected as Residential Adviser of the year as well as one of the two Residential Advisers to be selected to the Hiring Committee for the new Community Director position in the Residential Education Department.

Assisted with lab preparation and helped students with lab procedure

At Elementis Specialties, I was a lab intern for the Consumer Group. This internship introduced me to formulation with a concentration in color cosmetics as well as new instrumentation and laboratory techniques such as using a homogenizer and viscometer. I communicated with other suppliers regarding sample ordering to fulfill the lab's needs. This internship exposed me to the technical service and applications aspect of the personal care industry.

I started working at the Beach House Restaurant when I was a freshman in high school and continued to work there every summer while I was in college. I worked as both a hostess and a waitress. Even as a college graduate and into my professional career, I will still work a weekend here and there when my boss needs help at the end of the summer. I am very proud of my restaurant experience because I think it really helped me grow on both a personal and professional level.Sometimes the fast-paced environment of restaurants can be stressful and I learned how to adapt and think on my feet. In order to succeed in the fast-paced service industry, you need to be willing to work hard. I strongly recommend working in the service industry to any young person because it teaches you so much about work ethic, people skills, grit, integrity and team work.

At Southern Ocean Medical Center, I shadowed Dr. Evan Naylor. I observed the field of oncology as a medical practice. Through this experience, I gained a greater understanding regarding the importance of good relationships with patients to provide them with the best care.

While on the Bucknell in Northern Ireland program, we were placed with an externship in addition to our course work. These externships were working on peace building initiatives in the Derry community. My placement was with the WAVE Trauma Centre. WAVE is a center for victims that suffer from post-traumatic stress linked to the sectarian conflict in Northern Ireland. WAVE offers many resources and therapy, but is particularly known for its counseling. While my fellow intern and I could not sit in on the counseling, I learned a lot about the importance of peace building initiatives in order for people to move forward from the sectarian conflict. I also learned the need for the existence of these programs in communities and how securing their funding can be challenging and involve lots of work.While at my externship, I would interact with clients of WAVE through doing phone surveys regarding their treatments at WAVE and whether or not clients found them to be satisfactory. Additionally, I wrote several case briefs exemplifying how these programs help people and sent them to organizations that may help with the funding of WAVE. My work at this externship helped me realize how much work is done behind the scenes in order to keep these organizations running.
