DAAS provides Independent Domestic Abuse Advocacy support to victims of domestic abuse in the Scottish Borders. Operating as part of a domestic abuse pathway, DAAS receives referrals for adults, children and young people and increases their safety and well-being through risk assessment, safety planning and effective multi-agency working. During my time with DAAS I collaborated with the team to create policies to outline best practice, and engaged with the wider Violence Against Women partnership to implement a Multi-Agency Risk Assessment Conference (Marac) to improve outcomes for victims of high risk domestic abuse, and their children.

ASSIST provides support to adults, children and young people who have experienced domestic abuse through risk assessment and safety planning. As an Idaa I supported victims of domestic abuse by providing a range of practical and emotional support to victims and their children alongside the criminal justice process. I gained an in-depth knowledge of the dynamics and impact of domestic abuse and the importance of multi-agency working. Building on my experience of the Caledonian System, I gained insight into the importance of holding perpetrators accountable for their behaviour, while providing support to victims and their children as part of an effective multi-agency response to domestic abuse.

As Policy Officer within the Community Justice Directorate's Effective Practice Unit I supported the implementation and quality assurance of perpetrator interventions. The majority of my role focussed on the national roll out of the Caledonian System; an integrated approach to address domestic abuse.
