My role is to retain and grow a profitable book of corporate property business through a thoughtful and collaborative approach. By utilising actuaries and risk engineers, my aim is to develop individual property solutions for our customers.

National

My role was to lead the QBE vision of putting the client at the heart of what we do, essentially the client’s person on the inside. Taking more time to listen to our customer’s needs and then, working alongside them and their broker, develop products and services specially for their needs giving them the confidence to achieve their ambitions.

An internal transfer to Sydney at the end of October 2014 means that I am now currently refreshing and promoting QBE's multinational capability for the International Brokers Division. QBE have a first class presence across the globe and we now participate in over 100 programmes for Australian domiciled clients needing to insure their assets and liabilities overseas. My role takes me across QBE's northern region which includes both NSW and Queensland. My current challenge is to build new relationships with our brokers and clients which will lead to a credible and technical trading relationship going forward.

North Of England

My role here involved looking after a team of 14 people across two branches in QBE's northern region property team. A challenging role which involved the setting and delivering of budgets alongside building and supporting a winning team which proved very successful in the local markets. Ensuring QBE were the property market of choice was our main aim and also ensuring that we were delivering on our clients needs by getting to know them. The depth of relationships both with broker and clients was the winning formula and a huge plus for our retention strategy. I was very close to all the guys back in the UK QBE team and it was a wrench to leave but an opportunity to work in Sydney was too good to resist.

Northern Region - Manchester And Leeds

This role was very client focused and was all around building a proposition within QBE to ensure that we were delivering on our promises and providing the product and services that our client needed. Listening to our clients and working with them and in conjunction with our Broker partners was a huge aid to client retention and cross selling. Building the personal relationships and understanding our clients needs was hugely rewarding. The concept of a client value proposition was a new focus for QBE and it was rewarding to see our underwriters take this concept to be a "business as usual" responsibility and not a new role.

A new start up operation for AFM, opening a production outlet from the FM Global offices down in Salford Quays. The challenge was to grow a profitable book of brokered property business with the major broker partners in town. AFM was not a hugely recognised carrier outside of London so the initial approach was to raise awareness and demonstrate the capabilities and value added services that we could offer to our clients. The book of business was developed solidly over the 3 years I was there and was very profitable. The FM operating model does not suit every client so part of my role was to accurately pipeline those clients that would appreciate the risk management approach.

Actively seeking out new business opportunities including schemes and portfolio transfers from a large broker panel in the north west. The product base was varied and included small business packages and large corporate clients. Managing a portfolio of business which was developed from nothing when the office opened in 1991, was very rewarding and very profitable.
