Sexual Assault Response Network of Central Ohio (SARNCO)

Foodborne Diseases Centers for Outbreak Response Enhancement is a project funded by the CDC that works to develop new and better methods to detect, investigate, and prevent multistate outbreaks of foodborne illnesses. Interviewed patients throughout the state of Ohio on behalf of local health departments to obtain exposure histories. Participated in ongoing project activities and routine communication among ODH epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, and local health departments.

Received 45 hours of training. Answer calls to 24-hour Rape Helpline and provide crisis intervention. Meet with survivors and co-survivors at local hospitals following a sexual assault. Provide emotional support and information about options and resources.

Worked in the office for Sexual Violence Education and Support to evaluate and enhance sexual violence prevention campaigns on campus. Undertook literature reviews and researched fidelity measurement tools for a bystander intervention program.

At the High School of Computers and Technology in the Bronx, helped to create a college going culture among first-generation and traditionally “underserved” population of students in grades 9 through 12. Coordinated college campus visits and representative visits. Held college and financial aid workshops for parents. Managed seniors’ financial aid and college applications. Educated all grades about college and postsecondary options. Worked with school administration and staff to achieve college and school goals.

Conducted interviews with study participants. Took blood pressure, height, and weight measurements. Helped coordinate consent and recruitment of participants at churches of study.
