A keen and passionate Molecular biologist and now PhD student. Experience in using cutting edge molecular tools such as eDNA methods for monitoring and surveillance, as well as high-throughput sequencing and metabarcoding of microbial assemblages. Previous work includes using molecular based methods to determine factors affecting the health of aquatic animals primarily commercially important shellfish and crustaceans (mussels, cockles, oysters, crabs) through the detection of known parasites, as well as novel and emerging pathogens. This includes large-scale molecular screens via diagnostic PCRs, Sanger sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. Also trained in Illumina MiSeq and Nanopore sequencing methodologies for various applications including understanding population variation through genetic mutation and the presence of novel pathogens.
