Primary responsibility: Receiving specimens from patient care facilities and preparing cultures in the Microbiology Lab. Support Micro Techs by handling positive blood cultures, antibiotic susceptibility testing, and QA tasks. Requires adherence to strict procedures for specimen transportation, handling, and storage, and aseptic technique. Extensive knowledge of culture media, media inoculation, and lab equipment.Other responsibilities: Handling phone calls from healthcare professionals and clients, working pending lists to ensure specimens are in-lab as expected, counting inventory, training newly hired employees, conducting inter-departmental shadowing and student observations.
