I am a cultural and medical historian of Russia and the Soviet Union. My work focuses on the interchanges between the psy disciplines, politics and mass culture in the USSR. I am the author of Feeling Revolution: Cinema, Genre and the Politics of Affect under Stalin (Oxford: Oxford UP, 2020) and the co-editor (with Claire Shaw) of Technologies of Mind and Body in the Soviet Union and the Eastern Bloc (London: Bloomsbury, 2023). I am currently writing a book on early Soviet cinema, science and medicine and leading a Wellcome Trust funded project on scientific and cultural conceptions of trauma in the USSR, 1917-1953. I completed my PhD at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies at UCL and have held a number of research fellowships and lectureships in the UK and in Denmark.
