About Anna Tso
Anna Tso is currently Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English at the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong. She has over 15 years of research and teaching experiences in children's literature, Shakespeare, gender studies, and applied linguistics in the tertiary education sector in Hong Kong. She has a publication record which includes 9 funded research projects with successful completions and over 60 publications across Asia, Russia, Europe, the U.K., the U.S., Canada, Australia and New Zealand, including 3 authored books, 7 edited volumes, 3 special issues, an award-winning children's series, and a substantial number of book chapters and refereed articles in leading journals such as The International Journal of Early Childhood (SJR-Q1 in Education), Asian Association of Open Universities Journal (SJR-Q1 in Social Sciences), Libri & Liberi (SJR-Q2 in Literature and Literary Theory), and Journal of Language and Linguistic Studies (SJR-Q2 in Language and Linguistics). She has served as a PhD external reviewer for The University of Newcastle, Australia, and acted as a review panel member for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Insight Grants of the Canadian Government. She also holds the position of associate editor for the Digital Culture and Humanities book series (Springer, 2017 – present), serves as the President of the Hong Kong Association for Educational Communications and Technology (2022 – present), contributes monthly as a columnist for The Hong Kong Economic Journal (2023 – present), and host a radio programme called "The Fairytale World of H.C. Andersen" (2024 – 2025) at Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK).Alongside her career as an academic, she is an award-winning children’s writer and editor. Her children's book series, Hong Kong Stories (2017 - 2020) was heralded by the International Board on Books for Young People as an adventure “navigating life in Hong Kong” (Bookbird, 2021). Honoured with numerous accolades, including the 2022 Child’s Eye Award first runner-up, the 2020 Eric Hoffer Book Award second prize (digital nonfiction), as well as nominations for U.K.’s Wishing Shelf Book Awards 2020 and Hong Kong’s Debbie Alvarez Memorial Award 2019, she was a recipient of Munich’s Internationale Jugendbibliothek fellowship and a featured author in the Hong Kong International Young Readers’ Festival.
