Since 2009 ASF collaborates with SPARC, an Indian NGO, which together with the residents of slum areas are working for better housing conditions and legalization of housing for the poor.During the autumn of 2011 I participated in a slum redevelopment project called The Cuttack Ring Road project. The project involved 14 slum areas along the Ring Road, in the city of Cuttack in Orissa. The settlements are yearly hit by floods, because they are situated below the road embankment, in water logged areas or by the river bed. After years of discussions and struggle they have finally been provided with a new piece of land so that that the settlements, with a total of approximately 5000 inhabitants, may move to a new area. Together with the people in the areas and UDRC, an allied partner to SPARC, I participated in the planning of the new area. Show less
