I’m a mad scientist, a designer and an inventor. I love asking big “what if?” questions, and then getting my hands dirty trying to figure them out. My company, Uncommon Alchemy is all about creating sustainable, innovative materials for fashion and lifestyle products. It started with me mixing seaweed slime in my kitchen, covering every flat surface available with samples, and eventually making a bioplastic (and a lot of mess along the way).I’m constantly looking for new ways to create materials from the things we overlook or throw away - the possibilities are endless and I think that’s so exciting. Large parts of what I do could be called design thinking, but I prefer the term problem solving - each new problem along the way is a new challenge, and I love that. I have skills in various design disciplines, mostly focused around fashion and textiles. I back that up with my degree in Fashion Brand Marketing, so I can bring the design and business sides of things together. I have a particular interest in biomaterials for fashion applications, and I firmly believe that you shouldn’t have to sacrifice style and self-expression for sustainability - I’m on a mission to provide both.
