The “Cultural Adjustment Project for Improving Relations in Europe” (CAPIRE) is a cooperation between the universities of Twente (NL), Osnabrück (D), Torún (PL), Milano Bicocca (I) and Gustave Eiffel (F), funded by the European Erasmus+ program. The team develops a digital learning tool for intercultural training - called a Culture Simulator - for the five countries involved. This includes developing a user-friendly digital infrastructure and testing the tool. A large number of interviews will be conducted with expatriates to base the learning content on real-life experiences. But how?Personally, I took 3 lessons with me:Step 1: Understand the culture you currently have. 🔍Listen to what the people tell you, and hear different perspectives. Leadership must “walk the talk” 🚶🏻‍♀️Culture and people shape each other, all the time. Leaders act as role models for change, so you want to work hand in hand with them. 🤝3. Celebrate the small successes 🥳Culture exists on many levels, and change starts small. With your big goals in mind, it’s easy to lose sight of the small successes. Reminding yourself to appreciate them can be a great motivator. Show less

The research team developed intercultural training sessions and published them as open educational resources (OER). I assisted with the scientific evaluation during the pilot and developed and implemented ideas to increase the accessibility of the OER materials.

Together with fellow students and teachers, we- conceptualized intercultural training sessions,- developed materials - such as educasts - based on the scientific literature, and- scientifically evaluated them during the pilot.The training sessions were held for international exchange students and their student mentors from Osnabrück University.

A diverse team of fellow students who...- dared to dream big,- invented & built an e-learning platform from scratch,- provided it to a first customer, and- graduated from the UtrechtInc Incubator Program for Tech Startups (fall 2021).It was a blast and we learned a lot about UX, product development, customer research, and how to (not) build an online learning platform!
