As NAAFA's policy intern, it was my responsibility to assist with the lobbying for legislation in our key targeted states, including Massachusetts. To strengthen our long-term grassroots organizing efforts, I compiled a national database of local fat organizations, activists, influencers, and campus groups. I also reviewed and critiqued policy language for pending legislation in Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, and Vermont. I attended the International Weight Stigma Conference to learn about the latest research in fat policy. Finally, I observed and participated in meetings for various aspects of the organization to get a greater insight into nonprofit management.

As Graduate Assistant for The Waltham Group, I helped advise the largest student organization at Brandeis University. A rich Brandeis tradition, Waltham Group is the leading service organization at the university.

As social chair, it is my responsibility to connect public policy grad students through a variety of networking, professional development, and academic events.

I joined the Student Government Association in order to create change on campus and better advocate for the needs of the student body. I have redesigned this position, which was previously idle, and turned it into more of a political director role. For the fall 2020 semester I have focused my efforts on voter registration and voter education. After the election I intend to work with the Evansville City Council to build a Youth Council with representatives from the University of Evansville and high schools throughout the city. The Evansville-Vanderburgh County Human Relations Commission is a department of local government that addresses inequality in employment, housing, and other areas. As their intern, I was responsible for boosting our social media presence to reach more constituents, as well as assisting with our educational programing, including our Fair Housing Month event, our Equitable Employment for Formerly Incarcerated Persons seminar, and more. My internship finished off when I designed, advertised, organized, and completed my own event- a Stop Asian Hate panel discussion.

I joined the College Caucus of the Young Democrats of America in order to represent more rural states that are traditionally overlooked by the national party and national organizations. Through this term our executive board has been working to re-structure the caucus, which had previously been ineffective and disjunctive with the College Democrats of America organization. My job has pushed me to expand my social media, communications, and recruitment skills. We have been working to reinvent the caucus and reimagine what College Democrats are capable of accomplishing.Significant Accomplishments-Worked with leaders in the College Democrats of America and Young Democrats of America to re-design the relationship between the two organizations-Redesigned the caucus’s logos and marketing-Maintained College Caucus social media accounts-Attended all Young Democrats of America and College Democrats of America conventions (virtually or in-person)

This position within the Indiana Young Democrats has uniquely challenged and expanded my political, leadership, and organization skills. Leading Indiana’s largest congressional district has pushed me to network outside of the Evansville area, specifically focusing my efforts in Terre Haute. I have worked with more people and more committees than ever before to fundraise, organize events, and work to establish a new local Young Democrats chapter in Terre Haute.Significant Accomplishments-Traveled across the district to meet county party officials and young Democrats-Worked to start a new chapter in Terre Haute – collaborated with IYD Director of Chapter Development, Vigo County party chair, Indiana State University College Democrats, and more-Worked with Southwest Indiana Young Democrats to reinvigorate the chapter and host more virtual events due to the pandemic

In just two years, I have been able to reinvent the University of Southern Indiana chapter of College Democrats. I have focused my efforts on creating engaging meetings, increasing our social media presence, promoting professional opportunities to members, and expanding our presence in the Evansville community.Significant Accomplishments-Doubled membership from the 2018-2019 year (from 10 consistent members to 20, with the highest turnout for a meeting being roughly 40)-Planned and executed numerous events and meetings, including a lecture on the citizenship process, a forum highlighting city council candidates, and hosted a speaker from Indianapolis who presented on youth engagement in the democratic process-Created a website for the group to promote past events, job/internship opportunities, and recruit new members-Took three members to the College Democrats of America convention in New Orleans, Louisiana-Organized a successful campaign volunteer day for which members went out and canvassed for local candidates

Wide Awake Digital is a small digital organizing group that provides services such as graphic design, social media management, news media outreach and interviews, and more. Our clients notably include Vote Safe Indiana, an organization dedicated to educating voters on safe practices for voting during COVID-19 and lobbying for expanded vote-by-mail, and the Dr. Woody Myers for Governor campaign.Significant Accomplishments-Created graphics for Vote Safe Indiana-Helped implement the “Team WAM” program in its preliminary form to engage volunteers and supporters of the Woody Myers campaign-Attended all video conferences related to Team WAM and Vote Safe graphic design

As a crew trainer, I was responsible for teaching new employees how to take orders, make desserts, and work the drive-thru. My top priority when training was to teach them the importance of customer service, including how to answer questions kindly, create custard products that were high quality, and provide the best experience for each customer. During my time in this role, my managers and representatives from the corporate office recognized me for my dedication to excellence.

I joined the Communications Team of this campaign to learn about a different aspect of campaign work that I had yet to explore. Throughout this campaign I have made graphics for events and holidays, written social media posts, maintained a social media presence, and created video ads on behalf of the candidate.Significant Accomplishments-Used various media platforms to educate voters on the candidate’s policies-Experimented with video editing and graphic design-Researched Indiana legislation to respond from the campaign’s perspective

Through my time in the Political department of the College Democrats of Indiana I have primarily focused my efforts onto connecting campaigns across the state with college chapters. Through this, we have been able to better serve the communities that house our campuses, as well as serve the state as a whole more efficiently. I have attended various campaign launches across the state to represent this group as well. Another one of my primary responsibilities is to produce statements on behalf of the organization to provide our formal commentary on current events and legislation.Significant Accomplishments-Published various statements on behalf of the College Democrats of Indiana regarding current events, legislation, and political movements the group supported or rejected-Helped organize a successful fundraiser which raised over $4,000 for the organization-Communicated with county Democratic party chairpeople across the state to maintain data on candidates and officials-Produced endorsements for candidates across the state for the 2019 Municipal elections

I was presented the opportunity to participate in an eight-week summer fellowship program with the Biden campaign during the summer of 2019. This program consisted of weekly training webinars as well as an “action event.” Through this program I was able to learn more about effective grassroots organizing, laws surrounding campaigning and activism, how to relate with voters and make meaningful connections, and more. For my action event, I spoke at my county’s Democratic Party monthly breakfast and shared information about Biden’s platform and taught them effective ways to canvass and collect ballot petitions.Significant Accomplishments-Community address about the campaign-Successful completion of the program

This position was my first real campaign work and it is the basis for many of my political skills today. During this campaign I recruited volunteers, helped organize events and fundraisers, canvassed every day after classes, helped develop a field plan to decide a strategy for canvassing, analyzed voter data, and more. I was able to take rudimentary knowledge from previous volunteering and work from scratch to combine different techniques to tailor the plan to this specific campaign.Significant Accomplishments-Helped organize campaign events and fundraisers-Successfully formulated a field plan to use when canvassing-Recruited a solid team of 10 volunteers for GOTV weekends
