I am interested in the forces driving biodiversity in our oceans and how we classify and protect this diversity. In my research, I use genomics to explore the causes and impacts of species divergence in the presence of gene flow between the Queen angelfish (H. ciliaris) and the Blue angelfish (H. bermudensis).

My primary duties as a technician in the Davies Lab include preparing metabarcoding libraries for Illumina Miseq and Sanger sequencing, as well as training and mentoring high school and undergraduate researchers on various molecular biology laboratory techniques.

Completed metabarcoding (16S and ITS2) library preparation for Illumina Miseq and barcoding preparation for Sanger Sequencing. In the process, I regularly practiced and mastered skills such as DNA extraction and quantification, PCR amplification, and gel electrophoresis.

Being a mentor for Strong Women Strong Girls is an empowering role and allows me to be a part of a strong female community. My mentees are girls in 3rd-5th grade who I meet with once a week to learn about strong female role models and to discuss our values and aspirations in a supportive environment.

As a member of the Support Staff at New Logic Marine Science Camp, I am able to not only teach children grades K-8 about how amazing our oceans are, but also learn a lot myself about specific creatures and incredible phenomena of the sea. I further develop and acquire skills such as educating young children, working outdoors, and helping to ensure the success of a day camp during a pandemic.

At Spring Lake Golf Club, I served both members of the club as well as guests attending the club for special events such as weddings or graduation parties. As a server, I was constantly gaining customer service skills and valuable knowledge about the food industry.

As an intern at Woolax, my duties included research tasks, packaging and labeling design, and interior modeling while simultaneously learning new software and technologies associated with virtual reality experience development. At Banana Republic Factory Store, my duties varied from folding and organizing merchandise on the sales floor to assisting customers as they shopped and later at the register. I developed customer service skills as well as the fundamental knowledge of how to be a good employee, such as getting to work on time or completing tasks efficiently, since this was my first job.
