Northern Territory, Australia

A particularly memorable chunk of my recent international travel to the Southern Hemisphere. Based in an extremely remote region of the Northern Territory, Australia, my role varied from caring for the poddy-calves to gardening, to mustering on horseback in the bush. My time at Anthony Lagoon Station was a truly fascinating and valuable experience; seeing firsthand the extreme challenges that Australian agriculture is facing. Highlights included:• Flying around the station in the company plane • Mustering on horseback • Riding steers in the yards • Flying home in the station helicopter• Visiting other stations

Leicestershire

Following my research project for DMMP Limited, I joined the company in a permanent capacity and became an integral team member in the development of the Country Field Gardens brand from conception to the subsequent evolution of CENA Outdoor Kitchens. A highly diverse role; I have enjoyed creating written and visual content for a variety of online platforms alongside coordinating with external specialists in producing marketing collateral. During the early stages of the start-up, I spent much time identifying new product & market opportunities, establishing and developing supplier relationships. Later as B2B and B2C sales representative at UK shows and events such as The Game Fair, Southampton Boat Show and The Farm Business Innovation Show, I gained valuable experience on the show stand. In addition, I became the UK contact for international supplier relationships for the company owned brand POLYWOOD, placing orders, coordinating consolidated containers and organising UK customer delivery. I was responsible for UK customer relations, using a solution-orientated approach to maintaining excellent customer service. Highlights included: • Visiting POLYWOOD recycling plant & factory (Indiana, USA)• Launching Country Field Gardens at The Game Fair & other shows and events• Assisting on product shoots • Market Research project

Peckleton, Leicestershire

As a highly seasonal business, DMMP Limited was looking to diversify and increase their turnover in the summer months and I was consequently employed on a temporary basis to undertake an extensive research project to explore potential opportunities. The start-up business ‘Country Field Gardens’ was conceived and subsequently evolved into the brand CENA Outdoor Kitchens.

Uppingham, Rutland

Working within a team of three at an International event yard, I assisted in managing and exercising between fourteen and twenty competition horses, often taking sole responsibility of running the yard during busy periods and 3-day events. In addition to exercising, schooling and fast work, other daily duties included general yard work, field maintenance and transporting horses to events. Took advantage of all learning opportunities such as assisting in breaking young horses & sitting in on training sessions from external trainers. Working in the highly emotional, demanding and pressured environment of professional sport, not only highlighted the importance of skills such as communication, time-management, efficiency & attention to detail, but instilled a good work ethic and organised character. In this role I was able to have my own horse based on the yard and gained immeasurable knowledge and experience to further my own eventing ‘career’ and confidence to produce my own homebred horses.

Newport, Shropshire

I enjoyed an extremely varied role during my time in the Marketing & Communications Department at Harper Adams University. As ‘the face of Harper Adams’ for the 2013/14 show season, I attended a wide range of agricultural shows, careers fairs, UCAS and non-agricultural events communicating the opportunities available at HAU to potential students, alumni, figures of industry and the general public. When office based my time was split between organising events and travel, the writing and printing of marketing collateral, sourcing new merchandise and coordinating projects such as the construction of the HAU Research display at the Cereals event in 2014. Highlights included: • Singularly managing show stands such as The Royal Highland Show • Student Editor to the 2014 HAU Alternative Prospectus • Meeting Princess Ann on a visit to HAU • Taking part in the 2013 Lord Mayors Parade in London
