The location is a fast-paced shop and gallery in Soho. Working in a small team, you are required to engage with customers, explain the roots of MinaLima, whilst having excellent knowledge of the original props on show and the prints and products sold.

I regularly opened and closed the bar, as well as closing the clubhouse and operating the alarm system independently, cleaning the beer lines weekly, ordering all stock (beer kegs, wine, mixers), collaborating on creating the rotas, changing barrels during a shift, and booking events (including parties, funerals, and weddings). This required me to interact with clients and to be as accommodating as possible. I promoted our products and offered extra services – like décor. I also served drinks behind the bar, handled cash payments, as well as operating the coffee machine, all whilst maintaining a good relationship with the regular members and assisting with any problems with their online accounts.

I wrote reviews and features for the Film and TV sections during my final year at UOB. I particularly enjoyed delving into how gender was presented on screen. It has proved my ability to follow a format (with deadlines, word limits and a styleguide) and express my thoughts to a published online space.

I went into a local Birmingham school and worked with individual mentees. I helped them with further education, their current studies and built a relationship based on helping them succeed at school and beyond. All meetings required planning, to have resources on hand so that the full sessions were used, as well as adaptability due to the changing schedules of the students.

The job role consisted of working in different locations and adapting to different roles, sometimes taking on several at once, whilst working in a team. This taught me to remain collected, confident and efficient in my service. I worked with all staff members to make sure my job, as well as theirs, ran smoothly on the busy weekend nights which was crucial to make sure customer experience was at its best. I also worked on event days, where upon big films were released (when I was based in South Ruislip) or when Wembley Stadium had an event on (when I was based in Wembley), and that meant more flexibility was required and an ability to work under pressure.
