Annabelle Rayson is a curious and effervescent undergraduate student at Harvard from Sarnia, Ontario, Canada who is passionate about problem-solving, helping people, and improving the world around her. She is pursuing a degree in Environmental Science and Engineering and has future aspirations in environmental policy and research development. She aims to bridge the existing gaps between science, law and government policy to enact meaningful change, and create a greener and healthier world. Annabelle’s focuses and passions consist of limnology, environmental science, engineering, politics and public policy, social justice, and charity work. Last year, she was an undergraduate research fellow at the Harvard Forest Long Term Ecological Research Site studying winter forest methane emissions in the Matthes Lab and freshwater ecosystem health in relation to Global Change and invasive species. Annabelle has served as a member of her local Member of Parliament’s Youth Advisory Board, the Ontario Youth Environment Council, Student Trustee for the St. Clair Catholic District School Board, and the Student Advisory Board for the Salata Institute for Climate and Sustainability at Harvard University. She has represented Canada at and has won the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, the highest accolade in the world for youth water science, Third Prize Grand Award at the European Union Contest for Young Scientists, and a special award and Fourth Prize in the Environment category at the Regeneron International Sciences and Engineering Fair for her innovative limnology research and discovery of a method to treat and prevent harmful algae blooms through Daphnia magna biomanipulation. Annabelle has been the Chair of the Sarnia Shoebox Project since 2018 and when she isn't supporting women impacted by homelessness and domestic abuse, she is found at the nearest curling club practicing with her team and coaching. Annabelle currently works as a research assistant in the Sunderland Lab Biogeochemistry of Global Contaminants Research Group at the Harvard School of Engineering and Applied Sciences studying drinking water quality and contamination. She serves as a board member for the Harvard Woodbridge International Student Society and as President of Harvard Curling.
