As the Deputy Director of Learning and Outreach at the National Gallery, Annabelle Tan provides vision, leadership and strategic direction for the museum’s education and community engagement programmes, aligning them with the museum’s mission, exhibitions and collection. She oversees the Keppel Centre for Art Education, an award-winning Centre within the museum, dedicated to fostering holistic development and art appreciation among children aged 12 and below, through hands-on and imaginative play. Annabelle also leads teams responsible for Early Years and Families, Inclusive Museum-based Learning for Schools, Community Outreach and Well-being programs for young people. Furthermore, she actively participates in the development of global museum education dialogues in collaboration with international museums. Throughout her career in museum education, Annabelle has spearheaded museum learning programs that empower children and youths to question and share multiple perspectives on issues that are important to them, developing their confidence, critical thinking, creativity and social emotional development. Committed to providing equitable access to art education, she has led the Museum Learning Beyond Walls initiative, which has engaged with over a million individuals in communities. With over 20 years of experience working with young audiences both locally and internationally in the education sector, Annabelle previously served as a Program Director at A Place for Kids in New York, where she led efforts to create equitable opportunities for immigrant children before joining the Gallery.
